NURTURING A COMMUNITY OF READERS @ CLG

Congratulations are once again in order to 99.7% of our students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge in 2017.  That’s another fantastic effort which demonstrates again the wonderful way our home and school community work together to achieve fantastic results for our kids.

I love this quote – but would like to add, with beautiful books and stories borrowed from their libraries.

Knowing that we are nurturing a love of reading at CLG it got me thinking and wondering, just who is reading what, and how much?  I thought you might be interested to know that…

Our library has loaned 28,878 items this school year.  Fiction books are our most popular item (10,929 loans as of Tuesday morning), followed by Picture Fiction (4,804) and Junior Fiction (4,556).  Non-Fiction books are popular also (4,348) loans.

So how many books are different aged children borrowing?

R/1 – 4,766 loans  (average 25 loans / student)

Year 2 – 2,481 loans  (average 40 loans / student)

Primary (3-5) -11,708 (average 42 books / student)

Year 6/7 – 3,683 (average 27 books / student)

It’s great to see our kids borrowing so many books and ensuring that our school library is truly the vibrant hub of our school.  How lucky are we?
