Breakfast Book Club

We had a fabulous time celebrating our love of reading this morning, however we all agreed (except Charlotte) that A Wrinkle in Time was definitely NOT on our favourite book list!

We were warm and cosy inside while the rain bucked down outside.

Our next book club is going to be a little different.  Instead of choosing a book, Sara suggested we choose a theme (thanks for the great idea!).  So, next time we meet we will all bring a book that has has a magical theme – and we’ll all create something magical to share.

I look forward to seeing you all then.  I didn’t announce the date this morning, but I think we should keep the tradition of meeting on the Friday of Book Week.  So our next meeting will be that the Friday of Week 5, Term 3 (24th August).

Until then – happy reading!

Simone

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back!  I hope you enjoyed a fabulous break and managed to read for pleasure.  I know I certainly enjoyed savoring some lazy afternoons with some beautiful books.

Thank you to everyone who attended the first Book Club of the year on the last Friday of school.  We enjoyed sharing our reading experience and love of the book  Wonder.

Scholastic Book Club brochures will go home today, with orders due on Friday 11th May.  As always there is absolutely no pressure to purchase from the catalogue, but feel free to do so as every dollar spent supports our school library.

Our annual Book Fair is just around the corner, so keep May 28 and 29 free to support our major fundraiser.

It’s been fantastic to see so many children complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge already – keep up the great work everyone.

Happy reading!

Breakfast Book Club

I’m happy to announce our first meeting will be on FRIDAY 6th April @ 7.45am in the library.  (Week 10).

The book I have selected is Wonder by R. J Palacio.  I have 3 copies available for purchase @ $10 (due to an ordering error last year) if you would like to buy one.
For our younger readers, there is a picture book that captures the essence of the novel We’re all wonders which is in our library or alternately, the picture book Whoever you are by Mem Fox.
I think it would be great if the kids could respond by choosing an act of kindness to complete before the book club.  I will also set up a message jar (or something of the like) so that our members can spread kindness by saying something positive about another member.
I look forward to seeing you all then.  Please remember to bring a small plate of food to share for breakfast.
It’s not too late to join.  Simply comment on this post or email Simone @ simone.petherick915@schools.sa.edu.au if you’d like to  join us, we’d love your company.

BREAKFAST BOOK CLUB

If you are looking to nurture a love of books and reading with your child, then our Breakfast book club is for you.   As a group we choose a book to share with our children at home and then do a fun art/craft/creative activity related to the book to share at Book Club. We meet twice a term (once in Terms 1 & 4) on an agreed Friday morning from 7.45-8.30a.m. Each family brings a small plate of food to share, Simone supplies breakfast juice and we have a wonderful time sharing our responses to books.  Our club has been a huge success and we have all loved it.  If you’d like to join us this year, please email Simone (simone.petherick915@schools.sa.edu.au), comment on this post or pop into the library, we’d love to have you in our club.

Happy reading!

FINAL SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

As we had so many parents order from the last catalogue, we decided to participate in the final catalogue of the year on a very low key level.  Brochures haven’t been sent home to families, however if you’d like to place an order you can collect a pamphlet from the front office or library.  Alternately you can view it online here

Please remember we are able to accept online LOOP orders only.

ORDERS CLOSE FRIDAY 1ST DECEMBER

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB – ONLINE ORDERS ONLY

Book Club brochures were sent home last week with your child.   There are some fantastic bargains if you are looking to be organised for Christmas.  Don’t forget online orders only at Scholastic Loop.

There will be one more brochure later in the term.

I had a parent email me today sharing her family’s Christmas charity idea for 2017 which I thought was fabulous.  Nina said

…my sisters and I have bought charity gifts previous Christmases (goats, chooks etc) but this year our families are going to go shopping for secondhand books to give each other and the challenge of picking something different we think they might like.

What a beautiful idea, don’t you think?  Recycling books to nourish our hearts and minds, while making environmentally ethical choices, what’s not to love? Thank you Nina for sharing.

Happy reading!
